Launched two years ago and with 11.7 million unique users in January 2012, Pinterest is the fastest site in history to break the 10 million unique visitor mark. Average minutes on the site per visitor per month is also reported to be much higher than Twitter and LinkedIn but still well behind Facebook.

Women tend to be much more active on this new social media than men. 65% of Pinterest users are women, and they drive 85 percent of the traffic on the site. Pinterest’s target market is women between the ages of 25-54.

What is Pinterest?

Pinterest is a photo sharing website where users create and manage pinboards which are theme-based image collections. They have access to a “Pin It” button which users can “pin” a photo they find interesting on their pinboard. They can also download photos from their own collections too.

According to the creators, Pinterest’s aim is “to connect everyone in the world through the ‘things’ they find interesting” so that it can “reveal a common link between two people”. Although there is no official “business” section on Pinterest, companies can create a profile to help them boost their brand awareness and drive more traffic to their blogs and websites.

So what are you waiting for to create your Pinterest profile? We did. Visit our Pinterest profile.

We receive dozens of offers from different media outlets offering their services to our clients. Many come by email, many by phone, but why bother if you cannot present the offer professionally?

Our current favourite gibberish sentence is this:

The whole object of the advertising is to attract new business for you, the chance to up sell when the customer is with you and as I am sure you give excellent service and they will want to come back again and tell their friends and family.

This is the complete sentence as written and was part of an email offer sent to the Managing Director of a large client of ours. It is just one of many sentences full of incoherent nonsense in the email.

The shocking thing is that the company pushing their service is also currently spending money on a national TV advertising campaign.

Why bother if you cannot write good quality copy? Or at least employ someone do it for you?

SEO or Search Engine Optimisation is the process of making your website easy to understand for search engines such as Google.

That means when they scan your website, it is designed in such a way that the contents are clearly defined so the scanning software can index your website correctly against a list of topics.

PPC or Pay Per Click is a form of search engine advertising such as Google Adwords, that will display an advert when triggered by a search phrase that a user has typed in.

SEO is sometimes seen as a scam and certainly we have seen dubious operators in the market. But think about it – Google wants to return the best results it can for a search phrase that a user types. How else is it going to know whether your site is a good match to that search phrase other than by reading your site and deciding how to rank it.

So all the SEO process is, is good housekeeping. Correct labels (or keyword phrases) make sense don’t they? When these are used well and good content is written, Google is happy. If you try and scam them into returning a result, they will track you down.

Investing in SEO has helped many of our clients reach top 5 rankings on page 1 and this leads to better sales.

PPC is an excellent way of driving traffic to your site, but there is a cost so careful attention to the landing page on your website and monitoring of the results is vital.

This type of advertising is an excellent way of picking up additional search traffic for the less popular or “long-tail” phrases. These are the ones that are slightly different to the most popular or obvious choices but which are still relevant. Often they are even more relevant as they can be more detailed.

We recommend PPC for businesses that sell online or have a specific well defined service to promote. General browsers don’t convert to sales very easily but specific ones do. So better to spend your money picking up those people who are ready to buy than those who are just idly searching.

If you’re not sure is either SEO or PPC is right for you, drop us a line with a link to your website and we will take a look for you.
