Social Media is becoming a very common phrase but do you know what it is? In its most basic form, it is people having conversations and sharing information online. These conversations can take a variety of forms, for example on forums, in blogs and with photo and video sharing websites.
Sites like Facebook and Twitter are a huge phenomenon, especially among teenagers who use them to communicate instantly with a wide network of friends and contacts. A number of factors make social/new media different to traditional media like a newspaper or TV programme.
• Social media (like this post you are reading right now) can be updated instantly
• You can interact with our blog & leave a comment
• You can monitor the popularity of your product or service, for example take GAP PR and Marketing’s facebook page, it’s possible to see how many friends we have
• With the social media you can look back into archives and see all posts
• A social media page can mix media. A post could contain text, audio, video, or photos
• There are no publishing rules, you can write or post what you want
• It’s infinite, traditional media above all has limitations in terms of either length or quantity a site like YouTube can publish hundreds of hours of footage in one day
This new way of communicating to an audience is still in its infancy in terms of marketing but we have found it useful for several clients particularly in areas such as restaurants and clubs.
